The Long Con

Last month, I was out in California and my friend Larry told me he was exhibiting at a small convention in Burbank. I decided to check it out and ended up staying there for hours.
“Cons” have been a part of the science fiction/fantasy scene for a long time (like 70 years). It’s [...]

New York was wet and dreary.

Yesterday, I called New York City “an incredibly festive place this time of year.” What it was, was cold and wet and dreary.

Two views of Halloween

My granddaughter Violet in a pumpkin patch in Maryland. I’m very excited about her first Halloween, since that holiday is very important to me, but I’m going to miss it. As I write this, it’s already Halloween night in Kowloon, China. I’m getting on a plane soon; by the time I land in [...]

Cheesesteak Challenge

We step into the [...]

Sign of the times

I found this to be a really odd sight on the streets of London. Is this emblematic of the former British colonies taking over? Or is it a cheap sort of tribute to a deceased hero? Or is Gandhi just a super common name?

Telly in England

My hotel in London only carried a few channels, so I couldn’t see much, but on the other hand, this gave me a more accurate picture of the typical TV viewing experience in England.
In general, the television seemed far more low-key than American television, just as English movies seem much smaller in scale than American [...]

My trip to London

I just had a long weekend in London, five days in all. I had a fantastic time. Great restaurants, some shopping, a trip to the V&A. More details will follow.

Images of New Orleans

I’m in New Orleans this week and this is some of what I’ve seen. These photos were taken in Bywater, which is in part of the Ninth Ward.
