I try to have a little something for everybody during this annual seasonal music celebration. And since Hanukkah began at sundown this past Sunday, here are a couple tunes to assist your Maccabee-boy in getting festive.
Here’s a dub remix of the traditional “Oh Chanukah.” It fascinates me how little has to be done to reshape it. In places, you can hear the original song playing and it only takes the introduction of a new bassline to change the whole rhythm.
Then, in a 1998 radio appearance, Chris Isaak does “The Dreidel Song,” only in the manner it might be performed by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. That joke about Daniel Lanois at the end may be a reference to his production of Willie Nelson’s 1998 album Teatro ( as described on Wikipedia, “noted for its spare, yet drum-heavy and atmospheric sound, credited to Lanois.”).
