Living with disappointment

From the Even More Scared of Santa galleryThe Santa-God paradigm is interesting. Both big guys with beards, all-powerful and aware, making judgments on your moral worth. And, you know, you get down on your knees and you express a desire for something and then the Big Guy doesn’t come through.

What does that do to one’s belief system?

Well, some people become atheists and some become true believers and some just marshal on through life with a knowledge that disappointment is our cross to bear. So here are two songs about being disappointed by Santa.

I don’t know anything about Shallow or Roy & Clover and I suspect there’s nothing to be found. Oh, wait! Here’s a bio of Shallow. They’re now known as The Capsules.

These no-name Christmas originals hearken back to something I wrote three years ago in regards to no-name cover versions:

You know what’s great? Compilation albums that are filled with bands you’ve never heard of doing cover versions of songs you know. Most of them suck. Wait — they sa-HUCK. Either the artists make the mistake of hewing too closely to the original version or they veer off in some crazy direction that butchers the song. I love a good cover version, honest.

So, as I must give due credit to an unknown band that kicks ass on a cover of a Christmas classic, I must give even more credit for coming out with Christmas originals, of which there are too few.
