Following on yesterday’s post, two more White Stripes covers from a few years ago.
I can’t make up my mind about Joss Stone. Is she a blue-eyed soul wannabe? A cross between Hannah Montana and Janis Joplin? I’ve never paid close enough attention to make up my mind. What I do know for sure is that the first song of hers that came to my attention is still brilliant: “Fell in Love with a Boy,” from her debut album The Soul Sessions (2003). The first time I saw a picture of Joss Stone, I had trouble reconciling that image with the vocals on this tune.
Remember the big electroclash craze of a few years ago? Yeah, where’d that go? In the midst of it, came the no-budget Electrostripes: An Electro Tribute to The White Stripes (also from ’03). It’s utter crap, except for one cut by Satin and Circuits. No further information available; the quality of the CD reflects that.
Joss Stone – Fell in Love with a Boy — BUY
Satin and Circuits – Hotel Yorba — BUY
