Out on the California highway

As I have mentioned in a couple recent posts, I was recently in Las Vegas for a convention. Afterwards, I took a trip out to California to see my family. As has been mentioned numerous times, I am from the Golden State originally. To a large extent, I still think of it as my home, even though I’ve lived on the East Coast for almost 18 years. When I’m in L.A., on the Westside, it can pale pretty quickly. It didn’t take too many years away from L.A. to see it as shallow and drab as most of the country views it.

Most people’s perceptions of California are based on L.A. and San Francisco. But it’s a ridiculously large state and contains a similarly ridiculously large number of complexities. When I think of California, I think of eucalyptus trees, Giant Sequoia trees, Redwood trees, scrub oak. The state has the entertainment industry, sure. But aerospace and military-related, hi-tech and agriculture are also important.

Take a ride with me, heading east of Los Angeles, up towards my hometown of Pomona and then out towards Palm Desert, where my father now lives. Plus, a few fevered shots on the way back the next night.
