The most bombastic area in all of CES is the automotive section. This is the only area of a massive exhibition with genuine booth babes — in schoolgirl uniforms or halter tops and short shorts. The cars are stuffed full of the loudest audio equipment possible and every booth is pumping out sound.
I’ve long been fascinated by such equipment; here’s an essay I wrote in 2000 on boom cars.
Take a look at the photos below. You’re mostly looking at the back seat or trunk of these cars. You know those video screens that go in the back of the head rest? These cars might have one in each of the four seats, plus one in the dash and two in the trunk.
The top photo is a back seat. The one below is inside the back hatch door; below that is a front view of the vehicle (with “Oudlander” on the windshield). The fifth photo down is a red smart car; below that is its interior with speakers jammed into the doors. Photos seven & eight show a VW Bug with wing panels rising up from the roof (and check what’s behind the seats). The last photo at the bottom shows a set of revolving speakers that spin around like a tumbler.
