Good riddance

Time is an illusion.

Yes, it takes about 24 hours (these things aren’t precise) for the Earth to rotate, exposing us to a complete cycle of sunlight, but it depends on where on the globe you are and what time of year it is. And it’s about 365 days to move around the sun. But we made up days and weeks and months. Then we pick a day in the middle of Winter and call it the end and the beginning. We need to, I guess.

The New Year, we call it. Boy, that sounds good. This one sucked. Wait, I get a new one? A do-over, a mulligan? Count me in.

This year was a very bad year for John Higgins. It was also a very bad year for Sugar Pie DeSanto and the Coup, as well as for the residents of New Orleans.

So we can look at the year behind us in sorrow or anger (maybe just with regret), but then midnight will come and it’s like the chalkboard being wiped clean. For one magic moment, everything is possible again. This time we will get it right. Or this streak of bad luck will now break.

Possibility is a wonderful thing.
