[This is part of The John M. Higgins Memorial Xmasganza.]
Let’s take this in a little different direction, something electronic.
This acid house version of “Carol of the Bells” appeared on a Higgins mix some years ago. It comes from an odd little collection called Acid X-mas, on StreetBeat Records out of Miami, from 1997. This version is from New Orleans’ own DJ Demonixx (a.k.a. Michael Scott, a.k.a. Liquid Method, a.k.a. HEXX). You can read a little more about the background of the song in this post from last year.
Let me say a word in praise of the Swiss duo Yello, consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank. Everybody knows “Oh Yeah” from its use in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), but they’ve got a lot of other good material and I’m making a commitment right now to post some of their stuff in January. You can read more about the group here. Their version of “Jingle Bells” is from the soundtrack to The Santa Clause (1994).
