Two songs from bands named after California landmarks. Earlimart is named after a city in Central California, near Bakersfield. Silversun Pickups is named after a liquor store located at the corner of Sunset and Silver Lake Boulevards. Both bands are from Southern California, my old home.
Earlimart’s lead singer/guitarist Aaron Espinoza is known for his Eagle Rock recording studio The Ship. He made a name for himself with his engineering and production work with artists such as the late Elliott Smith, Grandaddy and Silversun Pickups.
The bands also share a kind of soaring wall-of-noise sound that I enjoy. “Answers & Questions” is the new single from Earlimart. “Lazy Eye” is from Silversun Pickups’ full-length debut album.
