Year One: Rising Tide

Wrapping up, here’s one last memory of my first year of blogging.

Hurricane Katrina sticks deeply in my mind. I posted about it quite a lot.

There were several posts that quoted from the classic Rising Tide, such as this one that gave a historical view and this one that looked at New Orleans’ racial profile. There was this post about New Orleans brass bands.

This post on Sister Gertrude was key. Her songs became my own personal soundtrack to watching coverage on TV.

As a closing note to this review, there are a number of downloads that seem to maintain their popularity month after month. They include:

  • Adrian & The Mysterious D’s mash-up of Gwen Stefani and Front 242.
  • Diplo’s Megatroid Mixsoup.
  • Dropbass’ mash-up “Kill Beyonce.”
  • Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.
  • The Stones/Matisyahu collaboration “Miss You Mash.”
  • And, one of my own, Rocker (Late Night Mix).
  • Oh, and a goddamn mess of you downloaded Paris Hilton’s single “Stars Are Blind,” which scared me so much that I didn’t post the new Justin Timberlake single, no matter how much I liked it.
