What the Dickens?

From hole2After last year’s season finale for Lost, a lot of fans were crying like little babies that they didn’t get enough. Oh, sure, in a stunning development, the Others showed up, Walt got kidnapped and the boat got blown up, but we didn’t get to see inside the hatch. Wah, wah, wah. I though it was fine and it led to the great opening of this season when we met Desmond.

Who quickly disappeared for the rest of the season, only to reappear last night, bearing a copy of Charles Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend (which turns out to not only be a great joke, but a tip of the hat to John Irving).

This is definitely a show you should be watching. Buy/rent Season One; Season Two comes out in October.

Here’s a sample of the reaction in the press:

Boston Globe: Dizzying ‘Lost’ finale has fans wondering what’s going on
New York Times: Dickens, Challah and That Mysterious Island
Chicago Sun-Times: A magnetic end to ‘Lost’ season

Who are these lucky bastards at these newspapers who get to watch Lost and write about it at 11 o’clock at night?

Lots of clues to chew on over the summer; a new clue for The Lost Experience; and more Widmore!

As part of the Experience, we’ve been learning about specific employees of the Hanso Foundation, one of whom was a guest on The Jimmy Kimmel Show last night.

I’ve completely lost my analytical edge on this one. I think I’ll need some time to calm down from this season and be cool and rational.

I ought to mention how friggin’ great Michael Emerson was this season as “Henry Gale.” His performance was a captured Other was fantastic — you didn’t know if he was just a social freak or guilty as hell — but his flip into a leader on last night’s episode was amazing.

And did you catch the shout-out to the Colossus of Rhodes?
