It’s a fethtival.

Dirty jokes told dirt cheapAh, you kids missed it.

From 1982-1993, Late Night with David Letterman ran on NBC at 12:30 a.m. For a while there, particularly in the first five years, it was one of the best shows on television. Longtime fans still talk about some running bits or great moments, such as Harvey Pekar, Crispin Glover, Chris Elliot, and Brother Theodore. It was the best of Steve Allen, Ernie Kovacs and Johnny Carson, all mixed in a gumbo and seasoned with Eighties irony.

During this same period, I had a home studio I used to fool around with. I made a pile of mixtapes and occasionally DJ’d, later doing so professionally for a brief period in the early Nineties when I moved to the East Coast. Like a lot of other people, I fooled around with doing crash edits on my tape deck.

For example, around 1986, I took the song “Rocker” from AC/DC’s 1981 album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and combined it with quotes from Letterman’s show. I did one crude test edit and then perfected it. Unfortunately, I only have a copy of demo version, but you’ll get the idea. The levels aren’t so good, so there’s a bit of clipping, and the sound quality is rough (Hey, it’s a 20-year old cassette copy!).

Anyway, I thought you might find this of interest.
