“Anything that happen is for a reason…”

Last night brought the opening of the NFL season, with the New England Patriots playing the Oakland Raiders. A long drawn-out pre-show included a list of musical performers that ranged from the Rolling Stones to Green Day. The highlight for me was the performance from the Los Angeles Coliseum of Kanye West and Maroon 5′s Adam Levine doing the song “Heard ‘Em Say,” one of the highlights from Kanye’s new album Late Registration.

The Boston Globe reports that the crowd at Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium loudly booed Kanye as he was shown on the stadium screens. I guess that comments like “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” don’t go over so well in the Boston area. Who would have guessed?

In other Kanye news, his new single “Gold Digger” has been remixed by the Houston-based K-OTIX crew to reflect the criticism of the Bush administration’s handling of the situation in New Orleans. Sample lyrics:

Five damn days
Five long days
And at the end of the fifth
He walkin’ in like “Hey…”

Download it here. In still other news, the Rolling Stones continue their decades-long streak of total irrelevancy.
