For some reason, the video for the Avalanches song “Frontier Psychiatrist” is getting attention recently. There was this from July and then this week BoingBoing promoted it. Well, yeah, great music video by Tommy Kuntz and Mark Maguire — who also have done a bunch of commercials and videos and the infamous Tokyo Breakfast film — but four years old.
If you go to iFilm to watch the video, much is made of the supposed fact that samples are used from “37 different spoken word recordings.” Big whoop. In the world of sampling, I don’t think that’s particularly extraordinary. And, as it has been pointed out already, the video doesn’t feature any particular technical wizardry. In fact, in its delightfully low-tech fashion, it reminds me of Michel Gondry‘s video for Daft Punk‘s “Around the World,” which you can find here.
