The cats behind Nina Sky (“Move Ya Body”) are unleashing their next move. To refresh your memory, Nina Sky is identical twins Nicole and Natalie Albino. They hooked up with production team the Jettsonz, who then brought in producer Cipha Sounds. The girls (they were only 18) wrote “Move Ya Body” to the rhythm of Cordell “Scatta” Burrell’s dancehall track “Coolie Skank” (You can see the video here). It was one of last summer’s incessant jams.
Now this from the Jettsonz:
The Jettsonz (Elijah Wells and Lionel Birmingham) are extending their musical family to form a prolific union of various recording artists and groups. To be released as an album under The Jettsonz moniker, the first offering is the reggaeton-inspired rendition of Mary J. Blige’s platinum hit, “Real Love.” With lead vocals performed by 17-year-old Thalisha, a native of Washington Heights, New York, new definition is added to its lyrical and rhythmical appeal.
Thalisha is being billed as “La Princesa of Reggaeton N’ B.” (I guess a play on R&B?) You can download “Real Love” here. (via Catchdubs)
Editorial aside: Hold up. Nicole and Natalie are teenaged girls from Astoria. Thalisha is a teenager from Washington Heights. Is there a theme here?
Speaking of New Yorkers, here’s Mike Doughty with his take on the song. Much love and respect to the man. He’s got a new record out and he’s touring, so cough it up and kick it in.
