AMC Ditches The Aristocrats

Newsweek reports that the AMC theater chain has changed its mind and decided not to show the new documentary The Aristocrats on its more than 3500 screens. According to the article, “AMC’s film group chairman, Dick Walsh, decided, according to a company spokeswoman, the film ‘would have very narrow appeal.’” It was always clear that the biggest challenge for the film (which is admittedly extremely filthy) would be the controversial nature of its content. The Aristocrats was planned to be released unrated, which means that most newspapers would not accept advertising for the movie. I’m pulling for the film, which is brilliant, but the filmmakers have their work cut out for them. See the trailer here.

UPDATE: Defamer provides coverage here. And also Poplicks gets in, including a link to Cartman telling “the joke.”
